The Department of International Business and Strategy at the Henley Business School, University of Reading, is delighted to announce that Professor Alain Verbeke, the Inaugural Alan M. Rugman Memorial Fellow at our institution, has been inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) – a prestigious recognition awarded to scholars for their exceptional contributions to academic excellence.

Prof. Verbeke, who also holds the McCaig Chair in Management at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, is widely recognized as a leading authority in international business strategy. His pioneering research on the theory of the multinational enterprise and global strategic decision-making has significantly shaped the field, inspiring academics, students and practitioners worldwide.

We are immensely proud to have Alain Verbeke as both a dedicated teacher in our International Business Masterclasses and as an esteemed research colleague. His innovative insights and expertise continue to enrich our students' learning experiences while advancing the field of international business and strategy globally.

In his own words: “I like to think that international business is civilization. This means that international business is the most direct route to achieve the economic integration among nations through the exchange of goods, services, capital, people, and perhaps most importantly information and knowledge. Multinational enterprises are the key actors in international business. I study their vulnerabilities, their challenges, and the tremendous barriers they face to be successful across borders. Multinational enterprises create enormous net value for many stakeholders, both at home and in host countries, thereby making them unmatched instruments to enact positive societal change.”

Congratulations to Prof. Verbeke on this well-deserved honour!
